Promoting Humanism in South West Hertfordshire

    At the November 7th monthly meeting – held on the first Saturday of each month at 11.00 a.m. at Reason Coffee Shop & Bookstore, 116 The Parade, Watford, WD17 1BD  – we will discuss the possibility of establishing a self-help group for those seeking like-minded people wanting to recover from religious beliefs and other irrational thinking. We will also hear from recovering religionists and arrange for a course on humanism to be held from January 2016.

    Watford Area Humanists is hosting a talk by Alexandra Stein, Ph.D., writer and educator specializing in the social psychology of ideological extremism and other dangerous social relationships. She will cover her time in a cult, her escape, and how she now educates the public on the signs of cult activity and brainwashing techniques used by cults. She has appeared in television documentaries including Channel 5’s recent ‘Trapped In A Cult’.

    We will meet at 11.00 a.m. on Saturday 3rd October 2015 at Reason Coffee Shop and Bookstore to consider Exploring Humanism – a six-week series of learning sessions, examining key aspects of Humanism, looking at:-

    • What do Humanists believe?
    • What are the historical roots of Humanism?
    • Where do Humanists get their moral values from?
    • How do Humanists handle moral dilemmas?
    • What is the meaning and purpose of life for Humanists?
    • What do Humanists do?

    Additionally, we shall consider other local, regional and national activities we – as Humanists – can be involved in.
